Gordon Lynch
The operator who became the lawyer. More than 15 years inside the businesses he now advises, across energy, governance, and executive leadership, brought to bear on the decisions that decide a company’s value, on both sides of the table.
His story
Gordon Lynch is a corporate and commercial lawyer focused on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic transactions. Based in Calgary, he brings something most lawyers can’t: more than 15 years inside the businesses he now advises, across energy, corporate governance, and executive leadership.
Before founding Obsidian Law in 2025, Gordon practiced at Janke Law Group and held senior legal and commercial roles at CVi, Husky Energy, Suncor, Devon Energy, and Shell. He approaches every transaction business-first, because he’s spent his career on the operating side of the table, not just the legal one.
His academic background spans law, finance, and the technical: a Bachelor of Laws (First-Class Honours) from Queen’s University Belfast, an MBA in Finance from the Haskayne School of Business, and a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Calgary. He also holds a Power Engineering diploma from NAIT and is a Certified Executive Coach through Royal Roads University.
Gordon is known for simplifying complex processes, strengthening board governance, and aligning legal strategy with long-term business goals, across operational efficiency, corporate structuring, and negotiation. It’s the combination founders rely on through growth, capital raising, and exit.
What drives him
The moment of decision: helping leaders act with clarity when the stakes are highest, so when opportunity or challenge arrives, his clients have both the legal certainty and the strategic foresight to move on it.
